Muizenberg is a small city in the southeast of Cape Town and about half an hour away with the car. Muizenberg has, for south Africa typically, white sand beach, where most of the families and surfers are going at the weekend, and because of that the beach can be crowded at Saturdays and Sundays. The spot is very attractive for surfers, because if there are good conditions you can ride some nice waves. It’s mostly a spot for beginners because the waves are not so big, the bottom is sandy and you are able to stand in the water for like 50 meters. On the promenade are located many surf shops where you can, if you don’t have your own, rent a surfboard for like R70 for the whole day.

The Cape Minstrels (also known as the Kaapse Klopse) take over the streets of the Mother City each year for the annual and historic Second New Year Street Parade, a colourful procession also known as Tweede Nuwe Jaar. While the musical celebration usually takes place on 2 January, the event was postponed due to logistics and holy days and the march is now confirmed to happened on Saturday, 17 January 2015.

I found my favorite place at the Cape of Good Hope by absolute accident. Of course you can only visit a place like this, when you hire a car from Aroundaboutcars. Driving through the quaint and picturesque town of Simon’s Town, we had to stop at The Sweetest Thing coffee and patisserie shop for the most mind blowing cakes/tarts and coffee. Satisfying our sugar rush we headed to the Grosvenor House perched high above the working naval harbor. Settling quickly into our gorgeous room with sweeping views over False Bay, we eagerly changed and headed out to a hiking trail close by, one of hundreds laid out by Sanparks throughout the Western Cape, lying above the penguin paradise at Boulders beach.

Longstreet is well known to be the more energetic street of Cape Town. If you don’t visit Longstreet, you don’t visit the mother city. It’s filled with many shops, a lot of restaurants, many pubs, cafe, bookshops and so on. The vibe is always nice in Long Street. During the day, you can do shopping at the African stores to bring souvenirs from South Africa. You can also take a seat in of the many restaurants for lunch time. You have the choice between different types. The nightlife is also crazy in Longstreet. The vibe is fantastic during the weekends.

I’m not used to waking up early morning. But this time it was worth it. I woke up at 5am to do one of the best farm game drives at Fairy Glen. So I went with the student from Good Hope Study. We took the bus at 5.45am. The direction from the city to Fairy Glen was really nice. I arrived at 9am.

Yours Truly is typical of Kloof Street, a road famed for its trendy bars and eating-places. The young hipster crowds look good, and they know it. The same can be said for the bars, which combine stylish décor and gourmet food with relatively high prices and small portions. Having said that no one’s making you drink the tasty craft beers for 38 rand each or eat the delicious little pizzas for 70. Just order Carling Black Label and don’t eat anything; you’ll be drunk soon enough!

My Danish friend, Sanne, slept over and our morning started at 06:30. We enjoyed a simple breakfast of bananas and yoghurt before cycling to the city from Tamboerskloof, where nearly 35 000 people gathered for the Cape Argus. It was incredibly well organised – all the cyclists were directed into different loading bays – I imagine that that is what gigantic herds of cows feel like at the instruction of their shepherds… There were public bathrooms everywhere and even a coffee trailer – despite there being so many people present, the queues were not too bad.
